Protect Your Building Site
Construction site theft is a real problem nationwide. Don’t think that your site can’t be a target of theft or vandalism. It can be.
The biggest risk of loss is theft of material. Thieves will take virtually anything.
Their favorites are lumber and copper water lines and wiring.
Light fixtures and appliances can also be targets.
It doesn’t matter if it’s nailed, glued, or screwed ─ if he wants it badly enough, he’ll take it.
Post Security Signs
Most theft occurs on weekends. Try to avoid Friday material deliveries that will sit unused over a weekend.
Try as much as possible to keep material deliveries timed to the day that it will be used. It’s not always possible to do so, but minimize your risk whenever you can.
Unused materials should be returned to the supplier as soon as possible. The longer something sits, the more of a target it becomes.
Talk to neighbors. Ask them to call you if they see someone on the construction site after hours or on weekends.
If theft or vandalism occurs, call police immediately.
You might also consider security lighting, controlled by a timer or photo cell.
Don’t be overly worried about this subject. The great majority of sites never have a problem. But do take all common sense precautions.Â
