Types of Roofing
Tile RoofingÂ
Roofing tiles are made of clay or concrete and are seen most often in the southwest, California, and Florida.

Tile roofs are another attractive and quite expensive option. Perhaps the most durable of all residential roofing, tile is also quite heavy and may require reinforced support.
An architect or engineer should be consulted to determine what the structural framing requirements are.

Slate Roofing
Slate roofing is beautiful, incredibly durable, and expensive.Â
Slate is rock. That kind of weight requires extra support.
Consult an architect for requirements. Â | Â |
But science and capitalism come to the rescue with synthetic slate (composite slate) shingles, made of recycled rubber and plastic.
Synthetic slate can be as lightweight as asphalt shingles, but more durable. It’s much cheaper than real slate, but still a good bit more expensive than asphalt shingles.
