Insulation (cont. p. 3)
Wall Insulation
Interior wall insulation will be installed after mechanicals are roughed-in: plumbing, electrical, heat and air, and anything that will be hidden in a wall cavity.
Types of Wall Insulation ● Fiberglass batts ● Blown cellulose ● Spray foam ● Blown fiberglass
Batt insulation (right) is the lowest cost.
Batts must be cut precisely to fit wall stud spacing. Effectiveness is diminished by gaps and air pockets, which are difficult to avoid when installing batts.

Cellulose Insulation
Cellulose is made from recycled newspaper. It is much denser than fiber-glass and does an excellent job of filling cavities without leaving air pockets.
It can be dry-blown, which requires netting to hold it in place.
Another method is wet-spraying. The cellulose is mixed with agents that enable it to bond to the wall as it is sprayed.
