Insulation (cont. p. 2)
Crawlspace Insulation
If the crawlspace is ventilated, standard rolled batt insulation is most commonly used.
Average temperature and humidity levels of the climate you live in can affect floor insulation choices, as can soil conditions. Consultation with local insulation companies is important for helping you make the best choice.
Wall Insulation
Exterior walls require insulation on both sides. This “blackboard” sheathing comes in 4x8 or 4x9 ft sheets.
In the photo below, this builder has chosen waferboard as exterior sheathing.
Waferboard is cheaper, but has less insulating value. | |
Foam Sheathing
Foam sheathing/insulation boards come from various manufacturers, made of various materials. Some offer built-in moisture barrier.
Make your choice based on a combination of cost and R-value.
Whatever type you choose, it should be installed by your framing contractor. |
