Roofing
The finished, waterproof, top layer of a roof: shingles, tiles, shakes, etc.
Roofing Square
Amount of roofing necessary to cover one hundred square feet of roof decking.
Rough Grade
A level of grading done by an excavator or landscaper, which allows foundation or concrete work to proceed, prior to finish (final) grade.
Rough-In
The first phase of work done by plumbing, electrical, HVAC and other contractors, prior to wallboard, to be followed by a final phase.

Shakes
Wooden shingles or siding installed in overlapping layers, or may be other materials designed to create same effect.
Sheathing
Boards, typically 4x8 feet, of plywood, foam, or other materials affixed to exterior walls of
a house, between wall studs and veneer, to provide insulation and bracing.
Sheetrock
A copyrighted trade name of a particular wallboard, often used generically to denote
wallboard/drywall.
Shingles
Pieces of wood, slate, metal, fiberglass or asphalt-based sheets which are installed in overlapping rows as the finished surface of a roof.
Shoe Mold
A type of interior trim affixed to the bottom edge of base mold, to cover gaps left between base mold and cut edges of wood or tile floors.
