Dedicated Cable
A television, computer, or phone cable that runs from its point of entry source directly to the end user without being spliced to service another user.

 

Dimensional Shingle
See “architectural shingle.”

Door Unit
A door complete with frame, trim, and in some examples, glass sidelights and transom, which may be installed in place as one piece.

Double Hung Window
A window with two sections (sash) that slide up and down independently in window frame.

 

Drip Edge
Metal strips, commonly aluminum, attached to lowest horizontal edge of roof decking, used to direct rainfall away from decking and into gutters.

Drywall
A gypsum-based board product that serves as the finished, paintable wall surface in most newly constructed houses.

Easement
A section of a privately-owned property, over which a government entity may restrict the right of the property owner to build a structure upon, typically retaining for the government the right to construct flood control or public utility lines on same section of property.

Elevation
For construction purposes, the elevation above sea level of any particular property, which may dictate the floor elevation of a constructed building in deference to flood potential.

Also refers to the section of house building plans which illustrate the exterior appearance of
the house.
