Brick Ledge
A concrete block or poured concrete section of a house foundation designed to support the weight of brick walls 

 

Brick Pocket
A cavity framed below the lower edge of a house roof line that conceals the top of brick walls.

Brick Tie
Small metal strips nailed to the sheathing of an exterior wall, used to connect brick to the wall 
for extra strength.

Broom Finish
A type of finished surface of concrete floors, in which a broom is brushed lightly over the wet surface, creating small ridges that add traction.

 

BTUH
British Thermal Unit per Hour.  A measure of air moved per hour by a heating and air-conditioning system, typically used for sizing purposes.

Builder’s Association
A non-profit association of licensed building contractors, organized by community, county, or state for the purpose of providing services and support to members and promoting good business and building practices among its members.

Builder’s Grade
A designation of quality of certain types of house building materials, typically denoting the lowest level of price and presumably lowest level of quality.

Builder’s Risk Insurance
A short-term insurance policy that indemnifies against damages to houses while under construction.

Building Code
Rules which specify minimum standards of safety in labor and materials used in building construction, typically enforced by a municipal or county government agency.

Building Inspector
A government employee trained in building science, who inspects buildings under construction to ensure compliance with building codes.
