Framing Your House (cont. p. 5)

What You Need To Do In Framing

Material take-offs are never absolutely accurate.  There will be times when your framer unexpectedly needs something he doesn’t have.

Stay in contact with your framer so that materials can be ordered promptly, or better yet, ordered in advance.

Some builders allow subcontractors to make material orders for them.

That’s ok for them if they have an established relationship of trust.

For your purposes, I advise against letting subs make material orders.

Any material order that you are paying for should go through you.

Framing Material Choices You May Need To Make

Sheathing

You must have a barrier between the wall studs and the veneer.

Most commonly used are plywood, waferboard, or insulated foam sheathing.

Plywood or waferboard is used at least on corners for bracing purposes.

For the remainder, most builders usually take the cheapest option between waferboard and sheathing, depending upon price fluctuations.

Sheathing will have greater insulation value, but may be more expensive.

Check to see if your area has building code requirements regarding sheathing material.
