The Basic Foundation of Your House
What Your Footing Contractor Will Do
● Layout the footings, marking exact locations where they will be dug.
● Dig the footings to proper depth, width, and angles.
● Pour the concrete for the footing.
What You Need To Do
● Days before you need him, hire an experienced, licensed, insured footings contractor with good references ─ who you actually called.
● Meet on site with contractor, making sure that he is aware of the building line. Agree on at least one corner location to begin layout from.
● At this meeting, if he hasn’t already committed to a starting date, get him to do so.
● Order whatever material that you are providing (example – rebar) and have it on site for when it will be needed.
● If you are providing the concrete, talk to your concrete supplier at least one day in advance to set up delivery.
● Call your building inspector’s office and request an inspection when footings are dug and ready for concrete to be poured. You may not pour concrete until inspection has passed.
