Hardwood Flooring
Hardwood flooring has grown tremendously in popularity in recent years. It’s now a common choice for rooms that have traditionally been carpeted, particularly family and living rooms. |
Quality hardwood flooring is a look that’s hard to beat.  It’s significantly more expensive than carpet.  If you can afford it, that extra cost will be repaid at selling time.

Wood flooring should not be confused with a simulated-wood product known as “laminate.” Laminate flooring is an engineered fiberboard product with a plastic coating designed to give the appearance of wood.
Laminate flooring can be had very cheaply. It’s often less than one dollar per square foot. It is a free-floating surface, not nailed or glued. It’s usually a do-it-yourself endeavor.
Laminate is an option if you want to go that way ─ just know what it is and what it isn’t.
It is not wood and will not have the durability of wood. It’s not a product I would use unless a house buyer specifically requested it as a money-saving choice.
Real hardwood floors come as one solid piece of wood or layers of wood.
