Drywall (cont., pg. 4)

What You Need To Do

● After hanging is complete and before finishing begins, do a clean out of all board scrap.  There will be a lot of it.

Some drywall contractors provide the clean up for an extra charge.  If they don’t, you’ll have to arrange for a clean up.

The finishers will either be walking around on stilts or rolling scaffolding.  A clean floor is important for safety and their ability to do their best work.

● As soon as possible after you do your post-framing clean up of the house, and before the drywall is delivered, you should mark the floors as shown in the photo.

These markings indicate locations of plugs, switches, wires, air vents, and boxes for mounting light fixtures.

All of these will pass through wall openings and must not be covered up by drywall

Almost every house I have built has at least one, and sometimes several
switches, vents, or whatever covered up because the drywall hangers forgot to cut a hole at the proper place.  These guys work very fast because they are paid by the board, not by the hour.

That kind of speed makes it easier to make mistakes.  The floor markings enable you to check after board hanging and easily tell if something has been inadvertently covered.
