Like windows, doors come in multiple material types for both interior and exterior.

Your primary choices are wood, fiberglass, and steel.

Wood Doors

Think of the positives and negatives of wood windows and apply the same to doors.  The rich look of a solid oak entry door, particularly as part of a unit with sidelights and transom, makes a beautiful focal point in the “curb appeal” of your house.

But high cost comes with that beauty.  And once again, wood will not have the same long-term resistance to the effects of the elements that steel or fiberglass will have.

If the front door is covered, however, with minimal exposure to sun or rain, those effects will be minimal to non-existent.
