Cabinets (cont., pg. 3)

● At the design consultation, make sure that they explain every possible option regarding wood choices, design, style, accessories, and the cost of each.

Don’t leave this meeting with any unanswered questions.

This master closet addition was built by a cabinet maker. It serves as bench seat and opens for storage.

Explore all the possibilities with your cabinet designerAt this meeting, they should give you a computerized drawing of the design with approximate measurements.

I say “approximate” because the measurements from which they actually build the cabinets should be taken at the house as soon as the walls are framed.

And that should be a month to six weeks before you would be ready to install

Framing measurements on the plan don’t always match the actual measurements of the framed house ─ for a variety of reasons.  The difference can be enough to result in cabinets that don’t fit ─ if you build cabinets from plan measurements.

● When cabinets are installed, check that all doors and drawers sit level and open and close smoothly.

Check everything for blemishes, flaws, or damage in the finish.

Do this immediately upon installation, so that there can be no question that the cabinets didn’t sustain damage later from another party.
