Build It This Way

Building It In The Right Order

8.  Dig footings.  Have them pass inspection.

9.  If soil treatment (termite) is required, do it before any concrete floors are poured.

10.  Proceed with remaining foundation work.  Block laying for crawlspace, framing for slab.

11.  For slab foundation, rough-in plumbing and electrical conduit before pouring any concrete.

12.  Have plumbing, electrical, and foundation forms pass inspection.

13.  Pour the concrete and finish your foundation.

14.  Whatever foundation water-
proofing you are doing, do now.

15.  Start framing.  This is a happy time in house building.  You see your dream taking shape.

 16.  (Optional)  You’re feeling better about the whole thing and beginning to believe you can actually do this.  You’re right.  You can.  Pat yourself on the back.

17.  When framing is finished, start roughing-in plumbing.

18.  As soon as plumbing vents and any other types of vents are through the roof, start roofing.

19.  Rough-in electric, heat and air, fireplace, gas lines, security system, and anything that will be hidden in a wall cavity.

20.  Have all of the rough-ins pass inspection.

21.  Insulate walls.

22.  Have framing pass inspection.

23.  Have brick inspection, if needed.  This is done before brick is laid.

24.  Install brick or whatever your siding choice may be.

25.  Hang and finish wallboard.  This may be done while brick or siding is being installed.
