Building Records

Keeping Good Building Records Makes Your Job Easier

Filing Systems

Again, you’ll have a choice of computerized or manual filing.  Keep what you can on filing software.

Even with computerized filing, your job will still generate a lot of paper.

  • Surveys
  • House plans
  • Job proposals
  • Material lists
  • Invoices
  • Product brochures
  • Receipts
  • Business cards

There will be plenty of other things that don’t occur to you upfront.  So get a good filing system that allows easy organizing of documents.

Don’t throw away any paperwork during construction unless you’re absolutely sure you won’t need it again.

You’ll be surprised at the amount of things you’ll want to refer back to.

I recommend keeping permanently anything to do with finances, subcontractors, and all of the items listed above.

All of that information will be particularly useful if you remodel, sell, or build again.
